Shedding more light on the design, Ar. Alhad Gore says, “When we started working on the project, the building was in its bare RCC shell form. Right from the façade to the glazing, brickwork and windows, everything was designed from scratch, keeping in mind the needs of the client.” He further adds, “As the building is situated away from the main road, the first and foremost challenge was to make it standout and have an identity of its own.  Here are more insights from Mr. Alhad, as shared with team ABT.

Tell us about the journey of Beyond Design Architects & its reach so far.
Beyond Design was started in November 2009 by me. Along with me were Ajay Tonpe and Indrajit Roy, who are the directors in the company. When we started, we were only 3 of us and had only 3000 sq.ft work in hand. Today we after 7 years, we have completed 25 lac sq.ft of commercial fit out works and are working on 3.5 lac sq.ft on site works. The team has grown from 3 to 35 with offices in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

What’s your design philosophy?
Design a holistic solution for client, not just aesthetically appealing but also like a well engineered product, since interior design is not only an art but also a science In fact the name “ Beyond Design “ originates from the same philosophy.

What are your views on the changing landscape of Architecture & Interior Design in India?
I think it’s a mix scene. While the western technology, materials and project execution skills are fast acquired here, there is a lot of blind copy that is also happening. Somewhere, somehow, we are losing the “ Indianness “ in design under the pretext of “ Global “ outlook.

Tell us about any one of your most prestigious designs/project.
“Globant “ – This project in Pune is spread across 1,00,000 sq.ft space. Its one of the most innovative designed project till now. We got the best office design award for the same from “The Society of British and International Design “.

If you were to do one thing differently, what would that be?
Change the syllabus for architectural education in India !!

What would you like to achieve in the next 5 years?
Instead of putting it in numbers, I would say more creative projects in the field of architecture, Hospitality, retail and residential.
