David Edwards is the CEO & Head of School at GEMS World Academy, Singapore. A passionate, dedicated and experienced international education leader, who successfully drives innovative programmes, aimed at providing outstanding learning opportunities, he talks to Winning Ways on the challenges of educators and the impact of technology on delivery of education.
David Edwards has worked in schools across Australia, Hong Kong and Singapore. Roles have included, but are not limited to, Director of Sport, Assistant Head of Boarding, Curriculum Coordinator, and School Principal. For the past 10 years David has served on multiple school boards, including the position of executive officer of a publicly-listed education company.
David’s educational background includes a Masters in Education (Leadership and Management), Post-Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education, and a Bachelor of Arts. He is currently a candidate in a Doctor of Business Administration programme, with a significant research focus on change management within the international school market.
David joined GEMS World Academy (Singapore), having served in a senior leadership position at a regional educational services company, and served as Director at the Center for Educational Leadership (Singapore). Prior to this, David served eight years at the world’s largest three programme IB school, located in Singapore and led key programmes at the school in a variety of leadership positions, including Principal.
David has extensive IB experience in the Asian context and has been a member of the IB Educator Network for 10 years, providing guidance as an MYP Moderator, School Consultant, School Visit Team Leader and Workshop Leader.
