ResMed Expands Sleep and Respiratory Health Innovations in Singapore

SINGAPORE, November 21, 2024 – Global health technology leader ResMed has announced significant expansion plans in Singapore, reinforcing its commitment to advancing sleep and respiratory health. In collaboration with the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), the company aims to strengthen its manufacturing and research capabilities, aligning with Singapore’s vision to become a hub for medical technology and advanced manufacturing.

Under its new investment strategy, ResMed plans to enhance its global manufacturing network and position Singapore as a key hub for digital sleep health innovation in the Asia-Pacific region. The company will expand production capacity, refine advanced manufacturing processes, and further develop its Digital Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (DSAIL).

DSAIL leverages cutting-edge AI and machine learning technologies to improve the patient and physician experience, aligning with ResMed’s broader strategy to enhance digital healthcare solutions globally.

Mick Farrell, CEO of ResMed, emphasised the importance of the partnership, “We have been in Singapore for over two decades, and this EDB partnership reflects our commitment to leveraging Singapore’s exceptional infrastructure and talent to help achieve our goal of improving the lives of 500 million people by 2030. Together, we are advancing sleep health, breathing health, and home healthcare technology, enabling people to breathe better, sleep better, and live healthier lives.”

Png Cheong Boon, Chairman of EDB, highlighted the collaboration as a testament to Singapore’s MedTech capabilities, “ResMed’s commitment underscores Singapore’s role as a trusted hub for advanced manufacturing and research, supporting global healthcare innovations. By strengthening our manufacturing ecosystem and connectivity within Asia, we can better serve the growing MedTech sector while creating opportunities for local enterprises and talent.”

Since establishing operations in Singapore over 20 years ago, ResMed has expanded significantly, now employing 1,300 people locally. The company’s 270,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Centre in Tuas, opened in 2022, is ResMed’s largest facility worldwide. This advanced manufacturing hub is the largest of its kind dedicated to producing respiratory medical devices and masks, including the recently launched AirSense 11 CPAP device, unveiled in Singapore on 6 November.

Complementing its manufacturing capabilities, ResMed operates a 3,400-square-foot Product Development Laboratory and regional commercial office at One North, driving product innovation and market growth across Asia.

Beyond infrastructure, ResMed actively collaborates with local educational institutions and the government to enhance Singapore’s talent pipeline. These efforts aim to meet the growing demands of the healthcare sector and support the country’s MedTech ambitions.

ResMed’s partnership with the EDB marks a significant milestone in its global strategy, reinforcing Singapore’s position as a centre for medical technology excellence. By integrating advanced manufacturing, AI-driven research, and local collaboration, ResMed continues to push the boundaries of innovation in sleep and respiratory health, benefiting millions worldwide.
