MANILA, September 27, 2024 – The University of Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL) has retained its autonomous status, reaffirmed by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). This recognition, valid from September 16, 2024, to September 15, 2027, highlights UPHSL’s commitment to providing quality education and aligning with CHED’s evolving policies on program excellence and institutional quality assurance.
The autonomous status also extends to UPHSL’s annex school, the UPH-Dr. Jose G. Tamayo Medical University, further cementing the institution’s reputation for exceeding minimum quality standards. UPHSL CEO Dr. Brig. Gen. Antonio Laperal Tamayo emphasized the significance of this achievement, noting the university’s alignment with global quality indicators and its dedication to maintaining high educational standards.
“The grant of autonomous status proves that UPHSL keeps itself attuned to global quality assurance, recognition, and accreditation,” said Dr. Tamayo. “The university’s dedication to providing top-notch education has been acknowledged both locally and internationally.”
In addition to CHED’s recognition, UPHSL was recently ranked 9th among private universities in the Philippines and 48th across ASEAN universities by Singapore-based AppliedHE. The university’s efforts to maintain high educational standards were further validated by a three-star rating from Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a respected global provider of higher education services and analytics.
Dr. Tamayo further highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering global partnerships and contributing to advanced research. “As UPHSL retains its autonomous status, it stands poised to continue shaping future leaders and advancing education both in the Philippines and beyond,” he added.
This continued recognition underscores UPHSL’s pivotal role in driving educational excellence and innovation, ensuring its place among the leading institutions in the region.
