SINGAPORE, June 23, 2025 – As Singapore accelerates its journey towards smart and sustainable living, a quiet transformation is taking shape in the heart of Toa Payoh. The Philips Light Lab — operated by DIYovation in partnership with Signify (formerly Philips Lighting) — is offering residents an immersive look at how lighting is evolving from mere illumination to an integral part of intelligent, connected lifestyles.
The experiential space, designed to mirror a real home environment, showcases cutting-edge smart lighting solutions from the WiZ and Philips Hue product lines. The lab enables visitors to explore how lighting can enhance comfort, boost energy efficiency, and create tailored experiences for different moments in everyday life — from work to entertainment.
“Lighting is no longer just about illumination. It is about how we live, feel, and function in our homes,” said Chandra Vaidyanathan, Managing Director of Signify Singapore. “At the Light Lab, we show how simple upgrades can create more comfortable, efficient, and enriching living spaces.”
Lighting Meets Immersive Entertainment
Among the highlights revealed during a media showcase last week was the upcoming WiZ HDMI Sync Box, set to launch in Singapore this July. The device allows room lighting to synchronise with on-screen content — be it movies, games, or music — in real-time and without the need for a camera.

Key features of the Sync Box include:
- Real-time lighting sync with HDMI input
- Preset modes such as Cinematic and Vibrant
- Compatibility with 4K HDR and HDMI 2.0
- Control via app, voice commands, or a remote
The innovation marks WiZ’s biggest leap into accessible immersive entertainment lighting, offering an affordable way to enhance home experiences with dynamic, responsive lighting.
A New Dimension in Design-Forward Lighting
Another centrepiece of the showcase was the upcoming Philips Hue Play Wall Washer, scheduled for release in Singapore this October. Utilising proprietary ColorCast projection technology, the wall washer delivers expansive gradients and reactive light displays in a sleek, minimalist design.

“The Hue Play Wall Washer is a bold step toward our vision of lighting as a cornerstone of immersive entertainment,” said Mr Vaidyanathan. “Its sleek design and powerful light projection transform everyday spaces into dynamic, content-driven experiences.”
Designed to seamlessly shift between ambient lighting and reactive entertainment mode, the device adds a premium aesthetic to any home, even when switched off.
AI-Powered Lighting Comes to Life
Adding another layer of intelligence, the Light Lab also previewed Philips Hue’s first generative AI assistant, arriving in August. Users will be able to interact with the assistant through text or voice to describe their mood, event, or aesthetic preference — and the AI will recommend or create a tailored lighting scene instantly.
The assistant will also evolve to offer scheduling, automation, and in-app support functions, bringing a new level of personalisation to home lighting.
Promoting Sustainable Living
Beyond innovation, the Light Lab underscores a strong commitment to sustainability. In collaboration with the National Environment Agency (NEA), Signify is conducting educational learning journeys as part of the Clean & Green Singapore (CGS) Experiences. These sessions are designed to raise awareness around energy conservation and greener living.
The initiative promotes practices such as:
- Turning off unused lights
- Selecting high-efficiency lighting products
- Choosing appliances with top-tier energy ratings
These activities aim to equip both students and the wider community with the knowledge and tools to contribute to Singapore’s carbon reduction and energy efficiency goals.
With the Philips Light Lab, Signify is not only showcasing the latest in smart lighting technology — it is also illustrating how lighting can play a transformative role in making homes smarter, lifestyles more immersive, and communities more sustainable.
