SINGAPORE, May 2, 2025 – Vietnam Airlines has taken another major stride in its digital transformation journey, strengthening its partnership with global financial technology leader Adyen to enhance its payment infrastructure across key international markets.
The Vietnamese flag carrier, which first collaborated with Adyen in 2017 for gateway services, expanded the relationship in 2024 by integrating Adyen’s global acquiring capabilities. This expansion now allows the airline to process transactions seamlessly across major markets, including Japan, Australia, the United States, and Europe.
By tapping into Adyen’s extensive global acquiring network, Vietnam Airlines has unlocked a more efficient payment experience for its passengers, offering faster, more reliable credit card transactions as well as local payment options like Alipay and WeChat Pay. The move also enables the airline to benefit from localised acquiring, connecting directly to card schemes such as Visa and Mastercard to boost authorisation rates and reduce transaction costs.
Since implementing Adyen’s acquiring services, Vietnam Airlines has reported up to a 5% increase in authorisation rates—a tangible indicator of the partnership’s value.
“Our strengthened partnership with Adyen represents a significant step forward in Vietnam Airlines’ digital transformation,” said Bui Tran Cuong, Deputy Director of Finance and Accounting at Vietnam Airlines. “With Adyen’s global reach and advanced payment solutions, we can offer travellers around the world a smooth, secure, and flexible payment experience—supporting both major card networks and emerging local payment methods. This collaboration helps us enhance the passenger journey while driving operational efficiency.”
The enhanced partnership reflects the growing importance of seamless digital payment systems in the aviation industry, especially as airlines look to serve a wider global customer base in a competitive travel landscape.
Warren Hayashi, President of Asia-Pacific at Adyen, commented: “We’re honoured to further our longstanding collaboration with Vietnam Airlines. Our continued partnership is testament to how innovative payment solutions can support global businesses in scaling with confidence and delivering superior customer experiences.”
With this latest move, Vietnam Airlines is poised to cater to the evolving preferences of international travellers while laying a strong foundation for future digital innovation.
