CIMC Group Q3 Profit Jumps 146% as Offshore Engineering, Containers and AI Data Centres Drive Growth

HONG KONG, October 29, 2026: China International Marine Containers (Group) Co. Ltd. (CIMC Group) reported a sharp improvement in third-quarter earnings, supported by stronger offshore engineering activity, a recovery in container manufacturing and accelerating demand for AI and cloud data centre infrastructure.

For the third quarter of 2026, CIMC recorded revenue of RMB47.9 billion, up 16.91% year on year and 3.57% from the previous quarter. Net profit attributable to shareholders rose 146.40% year on year to RMB708 million, while increasing 33.5% quarter on quarter.

For the first nine months of the year, revenue reached RMB126.8 billion, representing an 8.33% year-on-year increase, while net profit attributable to shareholders amounted to RMB1.45 billion.

The company attributed the stronger third-quarter performance primarily to continued contributions from offshore engineering and clean energy-related businesses, while the sequential improvement was supported by a recovery in container sales volumes and pricing during the second half.

Offshore engineering orders hit record high

One of the strongest areas of growth was CIMC’s marine engineering business.

New offshore engineering orders in the first three quarters reached US$5.7 billion, compared with just US$260 million in the same period of 2025, reflecting a significant acceleration in project wins.

CIMC said it secured several major contracts during the year, including China’s first FPSO EPCIC turnkey contract in June, a second FLNG EPC turnkey contract in August, four VLCC contracts and 12 pure car and truck carrier orders.

By the end of September, orders on hand at CIMC Raffles exceeded US$10 billion, marking a new record. The portfolio included both oil and gas and non-oil and gas orders, at a ratio of roughly 2:1.

The company is also expanding capacity at its offshore oil and gas bases to meet continued demand in deepwater markets.

Deliveries during the period included the fourth 7,000 CEU pure car and truck carrier built for a Greek shipowner and a 3,300 lane-metre ro-ro vessel for SMYRIL LINE. CIMC also completed the topside module for the Datang Hainan Danzhou 1.2 GW offshore wind project in September.

Container manufacturing rebounds in second half

CIMC’s traditional container manufacturing business also showed signs of recovery.

Third-quarter sales of dry cargo containers reached 0.92 million TEUs, up 35% both year on year and quarter on quarter.

For the first nine months, cumulative dry cargo container sales reached 2.055 million TEUs, representing a year-on-year increase of approximately 14.05%. Reefer container sales totalled 152,600 TEUs, supported in part by fruit transportation demand from South America.

The company said production, sales volumes and revenue in the container business all increased year on year during the period, although profit was pressured by lower container prices settled in the first half and foreign-exchange movements.

The second-half recovery reflects stronger container demand against a backdrop of resilient global goods trade, constrained shipping capacity and lower vessel turnaround efficiency.

AI data centre business gains momentum

A notable growth area for CIMC is its modular data centre business, where demand is being driven by the expansion of cloud computing and AI infrastructure.

CIMC Digital Energy signed more than 300MW of new cloud computing and AI computing power data centre orders in the third quarter, bringing cumulative new orders in the first nine months to more than 500MW, worth over RMB8 billion.

The company is also planning additional production capacity in Shanxi to serve the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei market.

The rapid expansion of this business places CIMC at the intersection of two major infrastructure themes: the physical buildout required for AI computing and the growing demand for modular, scalable data centre capacity.

Clean energy business continues to expand

CIMC Enric, the group’s energy, chemical and liquid food business, also delivered steady growth.

Revenue for the first three quarters rose 6% year on year to RMB20.502 billion, while net profit attributable to shareholders increased 6.5% to RMB817 million. Newly signed orders climbed 11.7% to RMB21.937 billion, with orders on hand reaching approximately RMB33.381 billion at the end of September.

Within the segment, clean energy revenue increased 11.3% to RMB16.739 billion.

CIMC said stronger performance was supported by offshore clean energy projects, the incremental contribution from its COG-to-hydrogen co-production LNG project and higher demand for natural gas transportation equipment.

The chemical and environmental segment grew faster, with revenue up 38.7% to RMB2.181 billion and new orders rising 45.3%. The liquid food segment saw new orders increase 124.1% year on year to RMB2.321 billion.

Global South markets emerge as growth driver

CIMC’s road transportation vehicle business also posted higher volumes.

CIMC Vehicles sold 116,000 vehicles globally in the first three quarters, up 14.62% year on year, while semi-trailer sales increased 14.8%.

The company said Global South markets had become an important source of growth, with revenue from those markets increasing by more than 25%.

CIMC also showcased pure electric tractors and trailers at IAA Transportation in Hanover, highlighting its push into electrified commercial transport and integrated tractor-trailer systems.

Logistics business strengthens Southeast Asia capabilities

CIMC Wetrans, the group’s logistics services business, reported steady revenue and profit growth despite volatility in container transportation markets.

The group said gross profit from sea transportation increased by more than 20%, while logistics capabilities in Southeast Asia were upgraded to strengthen shipments from the region to global destinations.

The company also expanded cold-chain capabilities, increased investment in reefer containers and strengthened overseas localisation through subsidiaries in Kenya and Saudi Arabia.

CIMC targets structural growth opportunities

CIMC management said the company intends to continue investing across offshore engineering, green energy and AI computing infrastructure.

“The global economic and trade environment and energy landscape continued to evolve in 2026,” management said, adding that the group would seek to capitalise on structural opportunities in high-end offshore engineering, green energy transition and AI computing infrastructure.

The first nine months of 2026 show CIMC becoming increasingly diversified beyond its traditional container manufacturing base.

While containers remain an important earnings driver, the strongest momentum is emerging from businesses tied to offshore energy, clean energy equipment and digital infrastructure.

That mix could become increasingly important as CIMC seeks to balance cyclical exposure in global trade with longer-term demand from energy transition and AI-related infrastructure investment.
