SINGAPORE, July 13, 2025 — Airalo, a leading global eSIM provider, has secured $220 million in new funding, becoming the world’s first eSIM unicorn. The round, led by private equity firm CVC through its Asia Fund VI, values the Delaware-headquartered company at over $1 billion. Existing investors Peak XV and Antler Elevate also participated.
The milestone underscores growing global demand for seamless, affordable mobile connectivity—particularly among international travellers—and positions Airalo at the forefront of innovation in the digital SIM (eSIM) market.
Founded to simplify mobile connectivity abroad, Airalo has now expanded its reach to over 20 million users across more than 200 destinations. Its platform enables travellers to access roaming services instantly through a mobile app, often at a fraction of traditional roaming costs.
“This funding is a major milestone, not just for Airalo, but for the future of global connectivity,” said Ahmet Bahadir Ozdemir, CEO and co-founder of Airalo. “We’re not just enabling better eSIM solutions for travel—we’re building the infrastructure for the next generation of international mobile connectivity.”
With the fresh capital, Airalo aims to enhance its user experience with more flexible plans and new product offerings. Starting this July, the company will roll out a broader range of eSIM data bundles—from 1GB short-term plans to unlimited 30-day packages—as well as options that include data, text, and voice for select destinations. A revamped app experience across web, iOS, and Android is also in the pipeline.
“The digital travel eSIM market, whilst already worth US$1 billion, is at the very early stages of becoming the main method by which consumers can receive the highest quality experience abroad, at a much lower price than they pay for roaming today,” said Siddharth Patel, Managing Partner at CVC. “Airalo, with a highly scalable digital model grown primarily through organic channels, is best positioned to deliver superior value and customer experience for global travellers.”
Beyond individual consumers, Airalo is investing in its enterprise offerings. Through its “Airalo for Business” platform, companies can efficiently manage global mobile connectivity for their employees, assign eSIMs, control budgets, and cut roaming costs by up to 90%. Its White Label and API solutions also enable partners to launch their own eSIM stores or integrate travel connectivity into existing services.
As demand for mobile-first, borderless communication continues to rise, Airalo’s expansion signals a broader shift in how people and businesses stay connected across borders—offering a blueprint for the future of global mobile access.
