Security Industry Shifts Towards AI, Biometrics, and Mobile Credentials: HID Report

SINGAPORE, March 11, 2025 – The security industry is undergoing a significant transformation as organisations increasingly embrace artificial intelligence (AI), biometrics, and mobile credentials, according to the newly released 2025 State of Security and Identity Report from HID.

The report, which surveyed 1,800 partners, end users, and security and IT professionals globally, highlights a shift towards software-driven solutions and integrated security platforms as businesses navigate an evolving threat landscape.

Rise of Mobile Credentials and Biometrics

One of the key trends identified in the report is the growing adoption of mobile credentials, with 61% of security leaders citing their expansion as a top industry shift. Nearly two-thirds of respondents are either deploying or planning to implement mobile access solutions, signalling a move away from traditional access methods.

At the same time, biometric technologies such as fingerprint, iris, and facial recognition are gaining traction. Currently, 35% of organisations have implemented biometric security measures, while an additional 13% plan to introduce them, pointing to further growth in the sector.

Increasing Demand for Unified Security Solutions

A growing number of organisations are prioritising unified security management, with 67% of security leaders looking to adopt software-driven solutions. The report found that 73% of respondents consider the integration of multiple data collection methods as either “somewhat” or “very important” for their operations.

Interoperability and Open Platforms Gain Importance

More than half of security professionals regard open-platform solutions as “extremely” or “very” important. As security systems become more complex, interoperability is emerging as a key requirement to ensure seamless integration across different security functions.

Shift Towards Converged Security Platforms

Rather than relying on standalone products, organisations are increasingly adopting converged security platforms. Nearly two-thirds of businesses and 73% of integrators and consultants report a move towards software-driven security ecosystems that integrate video surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection.

Channel Transformation Driven by Digital Innovation

The security sector is also experiencing rapid digital transformation, with growing end-user demand for AI, cloud solutions, Internet of Things (IoT) integration, and advanced analytics. While 77% of channel partners believe they are adapting well to these changes, they acknowledge the need to continuously evolve in response to shifting market expectations.

AI Agents Enhancing Security Operations

AI is playing an increasingly prominent role in security operations, with applications spanning access control, identity management, and video surveillance. The report found that 50% of security professionals see AI as a tool to improve efficiency and speed, while 47% highlight its benefits in enhancing real-time data analysis.

Sustainability Considerations in Security Investments

Sustainability remains an important factor in security decision-making, with 75% of leaders incorporating it into their selection criteria. However, security effectiveness and cost considerations remain the highest priorities for 80% of integrators and consultants, indicating that sustainability efforts are often weighed against budget constraints.

Commenting on the findings, Ramesh Songukrishnasamy, Senior Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at HID, noted that the industry is at a turning point. “The integration of modern technology with existing infrastructure is no longer optional — it’s imperative. The fact that 73% of security leaders now prioritise software-driven unified solutions shows we’ve moved beyond traditional siloed approaches. Organisations are demanding platforms that can scale with their needs while providing actionable intelligence.”

As businesses continue to navigate evolving security challenges, the adoption of AI-driven, mobile, and biometric solutions is expected to shape the future of the industry, redefining how organisations manage security in an increasingly digital world.
