HONG KONG, February 14, 2026 — Hong Kong will host its inaugural Hong Kong Comic Con 2026 (HKCC 2026) from May 29 to 31 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, marking the city’s first full-scale integration into the global Comic Con franchise ecosystem.
Organisers say the event aims to position Hong Kong as a strategic bridge between Eastern and Western pop culture markets, bringing together film, comics, anime, gaming and collectibles under a single cross-media platform.
The debut edition will feature a first wave of international screen talent, including Mads Mikkelsen, Giancarlo Esposito and Christopher Lloyd, with additional guest announcements expected in the lead-up to the event.
The presence of established Hollywood actors signals ambitions beyond fan engagement, reinforcing Hong Kong’s positioning as a regional hub for IP exchange and creative collaboration.
A convergence of fandom and industry
HKCC 2026 will span immersive franchise showcases, esports competitions, free-play gaming zones, trading card exhibitions and an Artist Alley spotlighting independent creators from Hong Kong. The format reflects the increasingly integrated nature of the global entertainment ecosystem, where intellectual property extends across film, streaming, gaming, collectibles and experiential events.
The event is guided by a Superfan Committee comprising industry veterans, collectors and former studio executives, a move designed to anchor programming authenticity while elevating production standards.
“This is more than a convention. It is the arrival of a global legacy,” said Ryan Li, Daniel Yim and James Chen, founders of Hong Kong Comic Con. “We are creating a dynamic, world-class experience that reflects the unique spirit and passion of Hong Kong and Asia’s fandom”.
Industry partnerships and IP ambitions
The event is co-organised with One Cool Group, a Hong Kong-based film and entertainment company with operations spanning production, IP management and technology-enabled content development.
Sean Man, Business Development and Communications Director at One Cool Group, described HKCC as a platform that moves beyond traditional entertainment silos. “This event represents a powerful, convergent platform that Hong Kong has been waiting for, one that fuses comics, film, gaming and technology,” he said.
The broader objective appears to extend beyond fandom to commercial and cross-border industry development. Hong Kong Comic Con is positioned as a marketplace for IP dialogue, creative collaboration and brand engagement across Greater China and Asia-Pacific markets.
Exhibition and experiential partners include Exhibition Group, EX-R International, Cyber Games Arena and Baobab Tree Event, strengthening capabilities across operations, esports production and experiential marketing.
Hong Kong’s positioning in the global pop culture economy
Organised by Optics Ventures, a venture studio focused on entertainment and experiential IP, HKCC 2026 reflects a growing strategy in Hong Kong to leverage cultural platforms as economic multipliers. The global Comic Con movement has evolved from fan conventions into high-value platforms that influence film marketing, merchandise licensing, streaming launches and gaming rollouts.
For Hong Kong, the inaugural edition arrives at a time when cities across Asia are competing to host flagship cultural events that attract international tourism, creative investment and IP partnerships.
By combining global screen talent with regional creative ecosystems, HKCC 2026 seeks to establish Hong Kong not only as a fan destination, but as a commercial node in the global entertainment supply chain.
As organisers put it, the countdown to May 2026 marks the start of what they intend to be a new chapter in Asia’s pop culture and IP landscape.
