SINGAPORE, October 17, 2025 – HID, a global leader in trusted identity solutions, has signed an agreement to acquire IDmelon, a Vancouver-based provider of secure sign-in solutions that streamline passwordless authentication through proprietary software and hardware technology.
The move will significantly expand HID’s FIDO (Fast IDentity Online) authentication capabilities, enabling organisations to use existing physical access cards, smartphones, or biometrics as FIDO2 security keys for digital access — eliminating the need for traditional passwords.

“Users have become acutely aware of the problems with passwords,” said Björn Lidefelt, Executive Vice President and Head of HID. “By adding IDmelon to the HID family, we now provide an easier path to passwordless.”
Enabling Seamless and Secure Digital Access
The IDmelon FIDO Management Platform allows enterprises to centralise and simplify passwordless authentication. By turning existing identifiers into enterprise-grade FIDO security keys, the platform bridges physical and digital access into one seamless, secure solution.
Administrators can easily register and manage users, import groups, assign or manage access cards, enforce security policies, and monitor authentication activity. Employees can log in securely with a PIN or biometric, ensuring strong security with minimal disruption to workflows.
According to HID, the acquisition will help customers transition to passwordless environments without major changes to infrastructure, while maximising operational efficiency and enhancing identity-first security.
Strategic Fit for HID’s Identity and Access Management Business
The IDmelon offering complements HID’s Identity and Access Management Solutions (IAMS) business area. It will be managed under HID’s Authentication Business Unit, strengthening the company’s portfolio of phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication (MFA) solutions.
“We are committed to providing seamless, best-in-class passwordless authentication solutions,” said Martin Ladstaetter, Senior Vice President and Head of Identity and Access Management Solutions at HID. “Now, with IDmelon in our portfolio, we are better equipped to help customers maximise their existing hardware investments by converting existing access cards into converged credentials – secure, multi-use keys that unify physical and logical access across the enterprise.”
Founded in 2019 and a member of the FIDO Alliance, IDmelon’s software and hardware technologies are already recognised for their ability to streamline enterprise authentication. The company’s approach supports the global move toward passwordless, phishing-resistant authentication, which is fast becoming a cybersecurity standard across sectors.
Strengthening Cybersecurity Through Simplicity
“By joining forces with HID, we are in an even stronger position to help organisations overcome the growing problem of passwords,” said Bahram Piri, CEO and Founder of IDmelon. “Our shared vision is to empower people and organisations to thrive knowing that their identities are protected.”
The acquisition, subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2025.
