Dr. Amit Kumar, Associate Vice President- Paramount Health Services
A seasoned professional with experience in health insurance management, government business management, patient and hospital management, payer & provider processes and social sector, Dr. Amit is a result oriented individual who possess strong interpersonal skills, ability to handle training programs & manage staff teams enjoys adjusting to a fast changing environment. He is a team player with capability of mentoring and managing a diverse group of professionals & building effective working relationships across geographic and cultural borders.
As the Associate Vice President in one of the largest Health Insurance Third party Administrator (TPA), Paramount Health Services (PHS), he pioneers in Health Insurance servicing in India, with presence in several countries. He started his career as a dental surgeon in a not-for-profit small hospital. The management gave him additional responsibility of Hospital administrator. There came the realization towards acquiring formal management skills and education.
A shift from Hospital sector to Health insurance was circumstantial, but enjoyable, he says. He has worked with Iffco Tokio General Insurance Company, in rural health insurance department and credits the support from the superiors and on ground learning’s, to his development.
Drawing examples from inter and intra industries relating to self leadership and development interests him the most. Learn and evolve is his motto. Spiritual readings and motivational literature are another area of interest. As a part time coach and trainer on self leadership and development, he is passionate to coach the younger generations to create better professionals for future.
The greatest inspiration comes from daily interactions with people. The new ideas, thoughts and ability to carry on against all odds in daily life are inspiring.
Journey in Paramount Healthcare services
The first interaction with Paramount Health Services came while working for an Insurance company where the Paramount was one of the partners for implementing the scheme on ground. The top leadership in Paramount Health Services is example of perfect leadership skills and management. Post MBA from SOIL (School of Inspired Leadership), PHS gave me the opportunity to head the health insurance department in Nepal. This opened another dimension to learning and experience in my career. It was wonderful to learn the new language, implementing the cashless insurance for the first time in Nepal, new friends and cross cultural understandings. The organization culture and the motivation of employees are key features of Paramount Healthcare services. The growth with Paramount Healthcare services has been tremendous in last few years.
Influence of Technology and Innovative practices
Technology is the cutting edge for any company in today’s world. It gives the competitive edge specifically to the companies in service sector the innovation in the processes is of utmost importance for best customer experience and satisfaction. The technology has enabled us to serve in both home grounds and abroad.
I think Character, competence and enthusiasm are the ways we can overcome the challenges faced in life. Preparedness through constant learning and timely upgrading along with ground work has been the key to overcome the challenges. The mentor-mentee relationship played important role in understanding the challenges/ practices and way forward.
Most cherished milestone
Offering community service in several villages near home town along with my team of doctors was most cherished. Along with the above the proud moment came when my company acknowledged the efforts and hard work I had put in controlling the loss ratio of a state run health insurance policy in India. Controlling the loss ratio for the rural health schemes is a challenge.
Goals for coming years
I wish to open the Not for profit organization offering healthcare services to needy and the poor in rural sector. I would like to coach the younger generations and professionals in self leadership and development enabling the organizations to create harmonious organizational structure and grow further.
