Dr. Parag Sancheti, Chairman – Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics & Rehabilitation

Dr. Parag Sancheti is a practicing Orthopedic Surgeon and the Chairman & Managing Director at Sancheti Institute for Orthopedics & Rehabilitation and Joint Replacement Center, one of the leading landmarks in Ortho care in West India. He is currently the President of Poona Orthopedic Society, Secretary General for Asia Pacific Knee Society and holds several other positions including Vice President of Indian Association of Sports Medicine (IASM), founder member of Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgery; on Board of the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) of USA, former secretary of Indian Arthroscopy Society (IAS) and many more.

His special interest lies in Total Joint Replacement surgery of the hip and knee, knee arthroscopy, pelvic and acetabulam fractures, Orthopedic Research & Academics and most importantly sports injuries.

Dr. Sancheti has more than 50 Publications in National and International journals to his credit. He has himself authored a book ‘Clinical Research Made EASY’.

He has won social awards like the Rashtra Seva Puraskar, Best Chapter Award, MITCON Achievers Awards and nominated as one of the ‘Icons of Pune’ by the Lokmat Group for having contributed for the development of the city. He has also been conferred with Hon. Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons at Edinburgh.

Tell us about the Challenges that you face as the head of a Leading Orthopedic Institution. How do you overcome them?
There is a continuous conflict between balancing priorities in terms of Patients/customer expectation and hospital overall growth. To be precise Maintaining Patient Safety to ensure high quality clinical care, maintaining quality matrices of hospital with high level patient satisfaction index, compliance with regulatory standards, attracting competent manpower to render quality services.

How the Technology & Innovative practices influenced your services?
Embracing new technology and innovative clinical practices has positively influenced services in terms curtailment of hospital stay of patients and better outcomes. In many cases the cost of surgery has been contained.

Marketing has enhanced & influenced almost all business today. How does this affect your profession?
I feel Marketing in our profession is more of patient/customer engagement initiative with an emphasis on educating patients and engaging them in their growing role as healthcare consumers. There is need to recognize patients as value-conscious customers.  In such changing scenario role of marketing becomes more crucial wherein patients can make informed decisions

If you were to recall any proud moment / milestone, what would that be?
Every time I see happy recovered patients at Sancheti Hospital.

What would be your advice to young entrants to the Medical & Healthcare profession?
As technology and new innovations are influencing the way hospitals operate now it’s very important for all Healthcare professionals to constantly enhance their learning and be updated. Basic principles of managing hospitals and rendering value added services to patients are today’s demand.
