Avdhesh Tripathi, Founder, Room2Shop, shares his personal experience. Once I wanted to buy a used mobile phone and when I searched for online, I got one from Bangalore. On completion of negotiation with the seller I decided to purchase the same but there was no option of online payment and he told me to pay on pick up

He observed that sellers from India have to use different platforms to sell their products in different formats like sellers use retail marketplaces to sell in retail and use B2B marketplaces to sell in bulk which is very difficult to manage.

Room2shop offers Auction Facility to the buyers as well as sellers where sellers will be able to list his second hand goods as well as dead stocks and will be able to sell it nationwide buyers who are not required to travel and can pay online. They also help manufacturers and wholesalers to sell their products in bulk through their Wholesale Room Facility. Room2Shop offers a platform for the sellers where they can list their products in Wholesale, Retail, Auction all at the same place, erasing the need for managing different sites.

What is Room2shop? What is the issue that the venture is trying to address and what makes you confident that it is a winning proposition.

What was the key factor/s that led you to take the plunge?
Loopholes in C2C market has led us to get into the business.

Where did you meet your other co-founders / business partners? Please describe each one briefly.
The other co-founders are Prakash Kaptan and Priti Tiwari. Prakash and I are friends since 12 years and Priti is a relative. Prakash has 13 years of experience in Banking and Finance and Priti has 3 years of experience in online sales.

How did you manage the initial capital?
We have bootstrapped the initial capital.

What were the first 90 days like?
Exciting, we have been learning new things since we started and each day has brought new excitement and learning with it.

Have you managed to raise any funding angel / seed, etc.?
No.

What is the revenue stream & profitability?
Revenue stream is the after sales commission that we charge from sellers and as per our YOY growth plan we will be profitable by 2018.

What is your guiding philosophy when it comes to doing business?
That’s practically everyone can sell practically everything

Where do you see yourself 3 years from now?
We want to become a reliable name in the market so that each artisan, trader, wholesaler and manufacturer can trust and do business on.
