Singapore Maritime Week opens

The eleventh Singapore Maritime Week (SMW 2016), Singapore’s largest maritime event, was officially launched Sunday (Apr 17) at Marina Square. (ChannelNewsAsia)

Held from Apr 17 to Apr 22, SMW 2016 consists of more than 30 events across the island, including conferences and exhibitions.Close to 30,000 public participants and delegates from the international maritime community are expected to attend the events, said the Maritime Port Authority (MPA).”Amid the global downturn in the shipping industry, SMW 2016 offers a platform for the industry to jointly address the challenges,” said Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure Khaw Boon Wan, who officiated the launch. “If we work together, we can better overcome the problems.” Mr Khaw and maritime leaders also unveiled a new Maritime Singapore logo at the opening.

Singapore Maritime Week (SMW) is the leading maritime event in Singapore. Driven by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), SMW gathers the international maritime community in Singapore for a week of conferences, dialogues, exhibitions and social events in celebration of all things maritime. The range of activities and events organised by MPA, the industry and research and educational institutions, as well as the cosmopolitan profile of participants, reflect the vibrancy and diversity of Singapore as a major international maritime centre.
